   The word was that a very dear friend of ours, Emery Percell, was lost in the mountains in Colorado. He was with his grandson Robert, a teenager. Then had not been heard from for two days.
   
   Emery is a pastor in Northern Illinois in Rockford. He is a dear friend. We could hardly believe the message. Emery had grown up in Colorado. He knew the trails well. He was on a well-marked, well-used trail, the Colorado Trail which runs the high ridges from Durango to Denver. Emery wrote, "Trails, I thought, are so logical.

   Emery said that the ranger looked across the way and shouted in a voice that echoed off the canyon walls, "Don't do anything. Stay where you are. We'll come and get you!"
   
   I picked up the pay phone where we were on vacation and called Emery after he was found. He was in the hospital. He was seriously ill, struggling with renal failure. He said to me, "Phil, you know, I've learned what grace is.
