What is your favorite part of your job?
Percassi: Seeing something you designed on paper take form during construction.
How did your Spencerport education help your career?
Percassi: My math background is very important to my job.I use geometry daily to make sure every piece of a given structure fits together properly.
Tell us something we might not know about the new Troup Howell Bridge.
Percassi: The bridge is constructed of three separate arches and six braces all bolted and welded together. For construction and inspection purposes, the arches are hollow and designed to allow an inspector to walk through the center of each arch from one side of the Genesee River to the other.
Do you believe there is currently more "elegance" added to the design of public projects than a few years ago? (For example, the O'Rourke Bridge, 490 Gateway, Vet's Bridge, 104 Corridor projects)
Percassi: Yes, "Context Sensitive Design" is a concept that the New York State Department of Transportation has accepted, especially when the bridge is located in a prominent location such as Downtown Rochester.
Many readers may remembber your mom, a former teacher here. How is she doing?
Percassi: Yes, my mom, Karen Percassi, is a retired Math teacher.
