According to Al Peng, director of the Motherboard Department, AOpen, the company's Intel-powered mainboards, in the first half of 2003, will feature hyperthreading technology in CPUs at 3.0GHz and above. As well, boards will comply with Intel's Flexible Motherboard Design Guide 2.0, otherwise known as FMB2, which is intended to ensure that Intel CPUs at speeds at or above 4.0GHz will have sufficient power reserves.
Intel's FMB2 requirements also cover issues of thermal dissipation, taking into account factors such as power supply and chassis design.FMB2 sees thermal coefficients and clock speeds blended into a reference table, and boards that are compliant with the spec will have the entire chassis and ambient temperature maintained within defined limits.
As regards chipsets, AOpen boards will be carrying the Intel 845PE and GE.

The idea, here, according to Peng, is that users can tune into FM radio stations for music and then record in say wav or MP3 format, developing a collection of the latest hit songs.
AOpen's director of Marcom, Tony Yang points out that AOpen is not simply a mainboard company."We supply optical and other components, including chassis, power supplies, coolers, and bare bones solutions. We also make multimedia and communications products, including sound cards and fax modems.Mainboards represent only some 30% of our output."
Adds Yang, the clone market has seen rapid growth over the past two or three years.
