The sooner the better, said Ronnie Pence, president and CEO of Kentucky National Bank in Elizabethtown.Pence said the new soldiers and their families will help the local economy, starting with the infantry brigade bringing 3,500 soldiers later this year.

"I think it is going to have a tremendous impact on this area," said Pence, a member of the chamber's board of directors.

His bank is building a new branch in Radcliff, and he said he expects the number of home loans, checking accounts and savings accounts to spike as a result of the expansion, even though the net change in troop numbers won't be large.

"With this new group, they are bringing families -- and that means they will need housing, restaurants, banks. They are going to buy things, and I mean they are going to live here," Pence said.
