    KITTERY, Maine - Winona "Winnie" M. Parsons, 78, of Old Dennett Road, died Wednesday Oct. 16, 2002, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.

    Born in Danvers, Mass., on March 31, 1924, she was a daughter of Everett and Lillian (Demsey) Witham. She attended local schools and graduated from Danvers High School, where she was active as a baton twirler and enjoyed reminiscing about it.

    She met and married her husband of more than 47 years, Herbert Parsons, in 1945; they moved to Kittery, where they made their home and raised a family. She was a past member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an active member of the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point.

    She and her husband enjoyed their travels around the United States and Newfoundland in their RV, making many lasting friends and seeing many beautiful sights together.

    Her first love was her family.

    She is survived by her children, two daughters and their husbands, Judith and William Smart of Kittery Point and Patricia and Kerry Smart of Sanford, and a son and his wife, Kenneth and Carolyn Parsons of Amesbury, Mass.; six grandchildren, Lea Poulin, Jody Parsons, Jennifer Johnston, Aleda Cote, John Smart and Marion Smart; a great-granddaughter, Savanna Poulin; a brother, Harrison and his wife, Keni Witham, of Boxford, Mass.; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at her church, the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point on Pepperell Road in Kittery Point, Maine, with burial to follow in Sagamore Cemetery in Portsmouth. Family flowers only; donations may be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point, Memorial Fund, 23 Pepperell Road, Kittery Point, ME 03905. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery, Maine.
