Approximately 25 members of the club met at the Saracen's Head Tavern on the evening of 26th November last to hear George Parrot, visiting Californian sports psychologist, speak on the physical injuries (the Devils) and the mental don'ts (the Demons) of running.George is a long-standing member of the Buffalo Chips Running Club in Sacramento (the best in America according to one running magazine), and a veteran of at least 100 marathons and 30 "longer-than-marathons".He warned runners, social and competitive, not to ignore the Devils of specific pains for too long. Most aches and pains are harmless, and can be "run through", but others, especially persistent ones, need assessment by a doctor or musculo-skeletal specialist.Of the Demons of running, he mentioned overcompetitiveness, and especially age-related unrealistic competitiveness.
