HARTFORD, Conn. -- Flashing police lights brightened a typically desolate and darkened roadway Saturday morning, when a driver ran over a woman, NBC 30's Amy Parmenter reported.
Investigators said it was about 3:30 a.m. when they were called to Liebert Road just off Jennings. They were responding to reports of a pedestrian struck by a car, but that may not be exactly what happened, Parmenter said.
The way the accident happened led police to believe the victim may have already been laying in the roadway when she was struck, Parmenter reported.

The accident happened just outside the entrance to Connecticut Transit headquarters, Parmenter said.
Police said the driver was on her way to work at Connecticut Transit when she ran over something in the road, which turned out to be a woman, she told investigators.
Investigators described the victim as a woman in her 20s.
Police said the driver's story seems consistent with their findings because the striking vehicle appears to have no front-end damage.
The victim was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.
Hours after the accident, her bloody clothes, a pair of sneakers and a hat left at the scene were collected for evidence, police told Parmenter.
Police cannot yet explain how the victim ended up along Liebert Road.
A white car, found a short distance away, was cluttered with what appeared to be a woman's possessions, Parmenter said, and investigators towed it from the scene.
