#4 Nora Palandjian
A soon-to-be freshman at Bard College, Palandjian is the fourth ranked student in Toll Gate's graduating class and plans to take on the challenge of a double major in anthropology and performance.
She explained that she owes her work ethic to her parents, who immigrated to the U.S. and didn't have the same educational opportunities that she does.
"To them it is most important that I receive the best education, and because they have instilled in me an appreciation for education, I will continue to work hard in school," she said.
Palandjian has excelled in her musical endeavors.A member of the string quartet and concertmistress for the school orchestra, she made All-State for the senior orchestra division in 2006, 2007 and 2008, All-Eastern orchestra in 2007 and was awarded superior in the Rhode Island Music Educators Association's Solo and Ensemble Festival from 2005 to 2008.
Her other activities extend to academics and volunteerism.Palandjian co-founded the International Relations League, participates in the math team and drama club and is an executive member of the Armenian Youth Federation.She volunteers for Senator Obama's presidential campaign and the International Institute of Rhode Island, as well as at Armenian and Sunday schools.
Palandjian is a member of the Rhode Island and Foreign Language Honor Societies and is a National Honor Society treasurer.
