CIDA is pleased to announce that Brian Pagan has accepted an assignment as Director General, International Policy Statement (IPS) Implementation, effective September 12, 2005.

The IPS charts a new course for a whole-of-government approach to development cooperation. The success of this policy requires a new path for CIDA as an Agency - effective implementation of leading-edge delivery systems, greater sectoral and country concentration and changes in how it works within government. These changes will have profound and very positive impacts on how we work and the results we achieve. The IPS is critical to the future success of the Agency and its implementation will represent the single most important priority for CIDA's Executive Committee for 2005-2006.

Within this context, Brian will lead an implementation team of dedicated resources, supported by a network of staff from key responsibility centres from across the Agency. In order to achieve the objective of making CIDA the best development agency in the world, the IPS implementation will require the active involvement of all staff and progress of this initiative will be regularly reported to all employees.

Prior to this assignment, Brian was the Director of the Canada Fund for Africa, the Government of Canada's flagship program announced at the 2002 G8 Summit in support of the G8 Africa Action Plan and NEPAD.Before joining CIDA in 2002, he held executive positions at the Treasury Board Secretariat and various management positions at the Department of National Defense.
