Seth Owens, who recently graduated from Ronald Reagan High School Summa cum Laude and in the top five percent of his class, has a good idea of who he wants to be.Seduced by the world of business and economics at an early age, he hopes to be a major player in the financial world."I am interested in Business, Economics, Government, International Relations, Literature, and Foreign Languages," Seth said.He pursued these interests vigorously in high school. He was the Secretary for Reagan High School's chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Seth served as the Secretary General, or President, of Reagan's Model United Nations (MUN). Seth's abilities in these fields have not gone unnoticed. He placed 1st at the State Leadership Conference in Business Law for FBLA his junior year, and during his senior year, he placed 2nd at both the state and national level in Economics at the National Leadership Conference held this past June.Seth has also won numerous awards in MUN, including Outstanding Delegate at MUN of the University of Chicago this past February and two Outstanding Delegate awards at MUN of San Antonio competitions. But despite what most think, Seth isn't all business."Outside of the classroom, I am interested in community service, the outdoors, and music," he said.Seth was an active member of the volunteer organization KEY club during high school, and he sings in his church's choir. He also learned skills outside of the classroom by working at HEB for over a year while maintaining a 100 GPA with a rigorous course-load."Sometimes I would work from right after school until 10:30 at night during the week and would have to go home and wake up by 5:00 the next morning to do my homework," Seth said."It was hard sometimes, but I learned a lot from my experiences."Yet his attention to business has not made him callous towards his fellow man. In fact, his interest in economics and world politics has made him more aware of the plight of less fortunate people all over the globe."I have learned that solutions to the major problems that confront our world, such as global poverty and disease, can be solved if people from all walks of life put aside their differences and work together," Seth said.Seth will attend the University of Texas at Austin this fall, and he will be double-majoring in the Business program and Plan II Liberal Arts Honors.
