    Sean Owens, an assistant professor at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, is among a group of 14 veterinary researchers at the university studying stem cell therapy in animals.

    He said there should be a "healthy skepticism" regarding animal stem cell therapy for three to five years until more scientific clinical trials are completed.But he is excited about the potential.

    "If these therapies meet half the promises they appear to, it's penicillin, something that will revolutionize medicine," Owens said.
