Anne Ovington, Coordinator of the Ballarat Region Seed Bank explained that collecting and handling native seed requires an understanding of a range of regulations, as well as technical skills.
"Seed collection is a skilled occupation and it requires an overall understanding to know the best places and times for seed collection and flora identification".
"It is important to keep genetic diversity in mind, as well as keeping the proper plants in the correct region, because there are a number of other collection and cleaning protocols involved.These types of training days provide us with a best possible opportunity to do make sure seed related activities are done right", Anne said.
