    Gary Ousley, his wife, Edna and their daughter, Pamela, entered the pages of Barber County history in August 1957 when they moved to Medicine Lodge from Norman, Oklahoma.Gary had recently graduated from Oklahoma University and was employed by Cities Service Gas Company.Their first home was in the basement section of a four-plex at 328 W. Central, Apr.No. 3.Their next home was at 302 N. Oak.One week after that move the company transferred Gary to Independence, Kansas.

    Gary became Production Engineer for his employer and worked in all the natural gas fields in and around Barber County, and as far away as Marion County in Kansas and Grant County in Oklahoma.Gary participated in many civic activities and was Secretary-Treasurer of the Lions Club from 1961 to 1962, and was a charter member of the Jaycee's in Medicine Lodge, becoming the second president of the club in 1962.During his term as president, the present street signs were purchased and installed, a defibrilator donated to the hospital emergency room and a resuscitator was placed at the swimming pool at the park.Edna was active in the vaccine clinics held by the Jaycee's.Gary also served on the City Planning Commission (1962-1964) and was a charter member of the Barber County Historical Society.He has accumulated a large 'scrap book' of information on Barber County history and its people.He keeps up with the Barber County history through 'hand me down' Barber County indexes.He also worked in some of the Peace Treaty pageants.
