1. SAC Recycling Trucks - Waste Age Systems

"People want as much as they can get for as little as they can pay," says Ray Ouellette, sales manager for SAC.
...
The business for recycling is very competitive, according to Ouellette, and "a lot of people had inferior quality," he says. "Today you're dealing with sophisticated buyers" who know what they want, he says. The company recommends using one-driver, stand-up right-hand, dual-drive systems, touting their cost savings over conventional multi-person collection.
SAC also has a chassis inventory on hand. "We don't want to be in the chassis business," says Ouellette, but having some chassis on hand gives the company some flexibility in designing systems for specific needs, as it can alter chassis and cabs to fit a hauler's or municipality's needs.
"We purchase the chassis from somebody like (Navistar) International (Chicago) and do the cab conversions ourselves," he says. "We like to have work-ready chassis on hand in our inventory," he adds.
Ouellette says he does see a trend toward commingled, multi-compartment vehicles-typically a two-compartment (or more) body that can take containers (cans, bottles, etc.) on one side and fiber (paper) on the other. Source separation is the key for the company's systems, he says.
And being a hauler, in addition to a recycling body maker, is an advantage. "When we come up with something new, we could try it on ourselves rather than our customers," he says.
