   In 1983, after 10 years in the Landscaping and Lawn Maintenance Business, Gus Ottoson opened Power Place in his garage in Flanders, NJ. At this time, his wanted to start the new business, yet still keep his landscaping business going.After about a year in the Outdoor Power Equipment business, Gus decided to stop landscaping altogether and focus solely on the retail business.In 1984, Gus moved the store to Rockaway.While in Flanders, Power Place sold a few minor brands and Toro.
   
   From 1984-1985, Power Place operated out of the garage in the back of the current Sherwin Williams Paint Store in Rockaway.At this location, Power Place quickly added Snapper and Bobcat.Power Place remained small offering parts and service to mostly commercial contractors.At this time, Gus worked with his Wife Janice and 1 service technician.
