The Canadian paddling community is mourning the death of Howard Radford

Ottawa (ON)-"Paddlers, coaches, officials, volunteers and thousands of paddling enthusiasts involved with the Canadian Canoe Association are mourning the death of Howard Radford on March 25, 2004.

Howard and his family are legends in paddling.Commodore of the Canadian Canoe Association in 1949, Howard left his mark on paddling in Canada.He was a long time member of the Cartierville Canoe Club in Montreal, Quebec.

Howard was the Canadian Member on the International Canoe Federation's Board of Management from 1950 to 1960.In 1952, he was the Olympic Team Manager for canoeing.In 1979, Howard became a Member of the Order of Canada.

Howard also made a significant contribution to the Olympic Movement in Canada. First, he was Chef de Mission for the Canadian Olympic Team in Mexico City, 1968.He was President of the then Canadian Olympic Association in 1968-1969.Howard was inducted as a Builder into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1976 and received the Canadian Olympic Order in 1995.
