Marcia Ory, a professor with Texas A&M University's School of Rural Public Health, said she is impressed with Milano's approach to healthier lifestyles.By addressing educational issues and involving as many townspeople as possible, the group is setting itself up for success, Ory said.
But even if Milano residents pledge to adopt a healthier lifestyle, follow-through is difficult without the means, or a primary place, to exercise.
By building a track, the town will create the "avenues and opportunities" for residents to carry out their resolutions to exercise, Ory said.
"Research says that they're doing things the right way," Ory said.
