The CARE Clinic and Better Health of Cumberland County offer limited care facilities for uninsured residents of the county, said Cathy Ory, executive director of The CARE Clinic. Both nonprofit clinics depend on volunteers and donations to help make their services available.
The CARE Clinic provides limited medical services to residents of Cumberland County who have no insurance, Ory said.
"Our patients cannot be eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, either," Ory said."Their household income has to be within 200 percent of the poverty level as defined by the federal government."
The main services provided at the clinic include primary care office visits, dental extractions and orthopaedic care. The clinic can help with prescriptions on a limited basis, too, Ory said.
"We can help only if the medicine is prescribed here at CARE Clinic," she said.
The clinic recently had one of its more successful fund-raisers - "Evening of CARE."It raised more than $35,000, Ory said.
Special dinners were catered at 25 Fayetteville homes.Tickets for dinner were sold for $75 for singles and $150 per couple.
"Our benefactors were treated to a wonderful catered dinner that was served by our gracious hosts and hostesses," Ory said."What a great way to help out with our mission."
Besides accepting donations of money and supplies, the CARE Clinic depends on the philanthropy of area doctors who volunteer their time and expertise, she said.
"We depend on their willingness to help," Ory said.
Currently, the clinic is recruiting volunteer pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, dentists and dental technicians.
Between July and September of 200, the clinic conducted 870 primary care visits, 88 dental visits, filled 2,102 prescriptions and conducted 353 lab tests, Ory said.
