A professional association manager with 18 years experience in managing nonprofit organizations, Cindy Challis Orr, CAE, has developed her skills through a variety of association positions and responsibilities.

As a commercial lines insurance agent and underwriter for over eight years, Ms. Orr gained valuable insight to the construction and oil industries, focusing on businesses related to both.Her successes and innovations eventually won her the position of Membership Director for the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Colorado , where she was recognized as the national organization's top recruiter over two consecutive years.

In addition, Ms. Orr served as Membership Director and Executive Director of ABC of Southern California, and as Executive Director of the Oklahoma State Association of Life Underwriters and the Oklahoma Nurses Association.While holding the post of Meetings Manager for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, she organized dozens of regional, national, and international events aimed at improving the communication and support of their member organizations.

Committed to the betterment of her profession both personally and on a broader scale, Ms. Orr has served on the Boards of Directors for the Oklahoma Society of Association Executives and the Metropolitan Insurance Women.A long-time member of the American Society of Association Executives and the Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE), in 1993 she earned the Certified Association Executive Designation (CAE) from ASAE.

In 1995 she founded NonProfit Resources, an association management company that currently represents several national and international trade associations.Known for her dedication, creativity and enthusiasm, Ms. Orr is passionate about the role and importance these associations exhibit in today's global economy.

"State law requires that certain tasks be done by RNs (registered nurses)," said Cindy Challis Orr, executive director of the Oklahoma Nurses Association."We are seeing, in some cases, these tasks being done by UAP (unlicensed assistant personnel).RNs aren't wanting to do this, but when they have 12 patients, they have to delegate to get everything done."

Orr, however, doesn't totally agree.

"There are statistics, exact studies, that the lower the nurse-to-patient ratio, the lower the accuity and morbidity ratios," she said."People go to hospitals for nursing care, 24-hour nursing care.If they didn't need it, they wouldn't be there."

Indeed, hospital officials agree that in today's world, they see only the sickest of the sick."RNs are trained to notice subtle changes.Non-nurses are more likely to miss subtle changes," she said.
