Lycos Asia announces the appointment of Mary Ong as head of its regional operations, headquartered in Singapore.Among other achievements, Ms Ong established Advanced Quality Solutions Int'l which she sold to Cap Gemini.The European IT services group invested US$60 million in her company which became Cap Gemini Singapore and appointed her managing director.
Building on Lycos Inc's position as the fastest growing internet portal and the world's largest online community, Mary Ong and her team at Lycos Asia will be delivering localised versions of Lycos.com and Tripod to more than ten Asian markets.She brings with her a wealth of industry experience and contacts that are rare among internet entrepreneurs.
From 1971 until her latest position in Lycos Asia, she held various senior level IT appointments in a number of large corporations.These include Executive Director, Transport & Logistics, at IPACS Asia; South East Asia Project Manager at Hewlett-Packard and Business Information Systems Manager at General Electric (USA) Asia.
In 1992 Mary Ong became what is today termed a technopreneur when she built Advanced Quality Solutions Int'l from a staff of two.By 1996, when Cap Gemini was looking for an opening into the Asian market, AQS had grown to 125 strong and was quickly chosen by the IT and consulting group for its quality management and highly skilled workforce.Cap Gemini Singapore became the role model for Cap Gemini's Asian roll-out.
