    Carolyn Olson is a graduate of Des Moines Area Community College with an A.S. Degree as a Paralegal, Buena Vista University with a B.A. degree in Human Services and Drake University with a Masters degree in Public Administration.

    Since 1999 she has served on the Iowa Empowerment Board, appointed by Governors Terry E. Branstad and Tom Vilsack.She has also lobbied for social service issues with Iowa legislators in the Senate and House of representatives.Olson serves as a Federal Emergency Management Agency board member for Webster County, the Countinuing Education Advisory Council for Iowa Central Community College, is Vice-Chair of the Community Health Center of Fort Dodge, and the Executive Committee on the YMCA Board of Directors.

    Before coming to the Fort Dodge Housing Agency, Carolyn was the Executive Director of Connections and the Webster County Center Director for Upper Des Moines Opportunity in Fort Dodge since 1996.

    Olson said her agency, for the second year, received a Shelter Care Plus Grant from HUD to aid homeless people with disabilities.Some of the money went to the Salvation Army, a community task force and various churches.

    "We work with faith-based organizations in the community but we ourselves are not faith based," Olson said.
