    Henri Oguike was born of a Nigerian father and a Welsh mother in West Glamorgan, Wales.He studied music, drama and dance at Swansea College prior to furthering his studies at the London Contemporary Dance School between 1991-1993.In 1994 he danced with "4D" (the School's postgraduate performance group), who commissioned him to choreograph Doors and Sundials.

    Henri was a founder member of the Richard Alston Dance Company (RADC), with whom he danced from 1994-98.In 1998 he left RADC to develop an independent career as a dancer, teacher and choreographer.

    In 2001, HODC received the Time Out Live awards 2001, as Most Outstanding New Company and embarked on its third UK tour, visiting 31 UK venues, including two live music performances at Stratford Circus, East London.

    Commissions for 2003 include With My Sighs for West Glamorgan Youth Dance Company, Splinter for Laban, two duets for Escapade, a live outdoor performance at London's South Bank Centre commissioned by Akademi/South Asian Dance UK, two new works for HODC and a new work for Phoenix Dance Theatre.In July 2003 Henri was one of four chosen UK choreographers for Jerwood Changing Stages Choreolab, Birmingham.

    Renowned for his vigorous, intricate and strong sense of musicality, dancer and choreographer Henri Oguike and his company of seven dancers return to The Lowry on Wed 6 February.Winner of Jerwood Choreography Award and Time Out Award, the four dance Mixed Bill includes world premières of Touching All and All Around.Both of these latest creations feature a series of solos and duets and the Mixed bill is completed by Green in Blue and Little Red which both premièred in 2007 to public and critical acclaim. Green in Blue is Henri Oguike's first foray into jazz and was created in collaboration with the internationally renowned saxophonist and composer Iain Ballamy.

    Henri has taught, performed and choreographed extensively in the UK and abroad including Israel, Monaco, Holland, Germany, France, Austria, Portugal, China and most recently, the USA.Both he and his company have been the recipients of many prestigious awards.In June 2007, Henri Oguike was awarded the AoC Gold Award for Further Education Alumni in recognition of his achievements in his chosen career.Most recently, he has been nominated for the Critics' Circle National Dance Awards for Outstanding Repertoire and by the Manchester evening News Theatre Awards for Dance.
