Vascular surgeon J. Franklin Oaks Jr., D.O., is opening a new office at 1809 S. Main St., Findlay, just east of Scarbrough Pharmacy and across South Main Street from Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center.
A surgeon here since July 2000, Dr. Oaks is the only fellowship-trained peripheral vascular surgeon in the Blanchard Valley Health Association system.Dr. Oaks offers the latest technology in minimally invasive vascular surgery including angiograms, angioplasty and endovascular stents.Additionally, he implants pacemakers, vascular access devices and performs carotid endarterectomies, vein surgery, peripheral vascular and aortic bypass surgery.He was recently appointed director of Trauma Services at Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center and is co-medical director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Imaging Lab.
Office hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays.Call 423-3339 for appointments.Current patients should stop by Findlay Surgical Associates during December to sign a release form for a medical records transfer.The records transfer will enable Dr. Oaks to provide quality continuous care during the transition to his new office.
A 1994 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Oaks completed a traditional internship with a surgical emphasis and general surgery residency at Doctors Hospital in Columbus.He completed his general surgery residency and earned specialized experience during a peripheral vascular surgery fellowship at South Pointe Hospital, part of the Cleveland Clinic Health Care System.
Dr. Oaks is a member of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, the American Osteopathic Association and Ohio Osteopathic Association.His honors include being selected as chief surgical resident at South Pointe Hospital, being named Resident of the Year at Doctors Hospital and being named chief intern at Doctors Hospital.He was on the dean's list, was a class officer, member of the National Osteopathic Honor Society and was president and a founding member of the OSU-COM Chapter of the Student Osteopathic Surgical Association.Dr. Oaks has had numerous articles published.
A former research fellow at Oklahoma State University, Oaks developed a cell-free, in-vitro translation system.He taught anatomy and physiology as an associate faculty member at Tulsa Junior College and worked three years as an NES Central Inc. emergency physician in Toledo.
