    Harold R. Oaks, the associate Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communications, is receiving a very distinguished award.

    Harold R. Oaks is the first BYU professor to be inducted into The College of Fellows of The American Theater, which is one of the highest honors an educator and theater professional can receive.

    "Receiving this award is the same as a faculty member winning the Pulitzer or Nobel Prize," Oaks said.

    Oaks will be recognized at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, April 21, held in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

    Oaks was nominated by peers in his field over three years ago, and was notified in June of his award.

    Oaks completed his B.A. and M.A. at BYU and then got a Ph.D. in theater from the University of Minnesota.

    He has taught at several universities and is now both the associate dean of the College of Communications and Fine Arts and coordinates the drama/theater for young people program at BYU.

    This award and recognition directly benefits BYU.

    "It says something about the quality of the institution when they have faculty that are recognized nationally for the work they have done," Oaks said.

    Oaks will be inducted along with two other theater professors at a formal ceremony with the other College of Fellows members.
