Mountain View, CA (June 12, 2006)-- Head assistant baseball coach at Santa Clara University, Mike Oakland is slated to join the faculty and coaching staff at Saint Francis High School in the fall of 2006.He will coach the varsity baseball team and teach computer literacy and P.E.
Oakland brings over ten years of experience in coaching and recruiting as well as eight years of experience as a college and professional athlete to the athletic department at Saint Francis.In addition to his career at Santa Clara University, he has also worked as the head assistant coach at California Polytechnic State University, and as the head coach for the Anchorage Bucs of the Alaska Summer Collegiate Baseball League.
As an athlete, Oakland was considered to be one of the best players in Cal Poly's history, earning California Collegiate Athletic Association and West Region MVP honors.Oakland also gleaned Division II All-America accolades as well as the Cal Poly Mustang Team Sports Male Athlete of the Year award.Following his collegiate career at Cal Poly, the Colorado Rockies drafted Oakland in the 22nd round of the 1992 Major League Baseball amateur draft.He spent four years with the Rockies' organization.
