Senator Chun Oakland continues to hold memberships with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Hawaii Chinese Civic Association.She attended the University of Hawaii and received her Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Communications and Psychology.

For her outstanding public service, Senator Chun Oakland has been honored with numerous awards and accolades.They include: Easter Seals Hawaii 1999 Advocacy EDI Award and the 1988 Honolulu Neighborhood Housing Services Award of Excellence.She has also been named the Legislator of the Year by many organizations, including: Hawaii Long Term Care Association, Hawaii Psychiatric Medical Association, Autism Society of Hawaii, Healthcare Association of Hawaii, Hawaii Medical Association, Mental Health Association of Hawaii, Hawaii Long Term Care Association, Aloha State Association of the Deaf, Hawaii Kids Watch, and the Hawaii Medical Association.
