Carol Oakland (Augustana College) - For 17 years Oakland provided the creativity, vision and energy necessary to drive the Augustana Athletic Booster Club. From a fledgling organization when she took over as the first full-time Director of Athletic Development in 1985 to an intregal part of a student-athlete's success, she has been responsible for the development of fund-raising activities.

That has been no small task as Oakland has organized the Hall of Fame Banquet, Booster Auction and the Sam Milanovich Golf Tournament into first-class events. In addition to selling ads, writing and rewriting football and basketball programs, she has advised the Dance Express and cheer teams, coordinated halftime entertainment and raised the Augie Blue and Gold tent countless times for tailgate parties.

Perhaps one of her most significant accomplishments is in the growth of the booster club.Membership is more than 1,000 and includes individuals, families and businesses and the growth is a result of Oakland's drive, organizational skills and ability to harness the energy of an extensive network of volunteers.

Her dedication and many accomplishments did not go unnoticed. She was named the 1999 College Division Fund Raiser of the Year by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors. She served five years on the board of directors of NAADD and was president in 1998-99.In 1991 she was the recipient of the Sioux Falls YWCA Leadership Award for Business. She received the Alumni Achievement Award from Augustana in 1999.

Oakland has had close ties to Augustana since arriving on campus as a freshman from Canby, Minn. in 1967.A biology and secondary education major, she graduated summa cum laude in 1971.

Carol taught in the biology department at Augustana in 1978.
