A native of Shakopee, Minnesota, Laura Oakes has won several Associated Press and other news awards with WCCO Radio and the Minnesota News Network.Laura joined the WCCO team in 1996 and can be heard co-anchoring the WCCO News Hour at 5pm.

Oakes graduated from the University of Minnesota -Duluth with degrees in Communications and History.She also attended Brown Institute, and is currently a board member of the Minnesota Associated Press Broadcasters.

Laura started her radio career in Fergus Falls, MN then moved on to radio and TV in Duluth.She was a News Reporter and a morning News Anchor at KDLH-TV and a college student, which of course meant...no sleep!

She has been a competitive figure skater, and enjoys music, theater and sports.Laura enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, and is thrilled to be part of the award-winning WCCO Radio News Department.

Laura Oakes has worked in and around broadcast news outlets for more than 15 years.Her experience behind the microphone and in the producer's booth has brought her the knowledge and the relationships that she needs to get her client's story heard.

Before entering the field of public relations, Laura was the producer of the Pat Miles Show on WCCO-AM where she managed the topics, content and guests featured on the three-hour live broadcast.Prior to producing, Laura also worked as a reporter for WCCO-AM where she wrote, produced and anchored hourly newscasts.Oakes also has held reporting and anchoring positions with KSTP-AM in St. Paul, Minn. and KDLH-TV in Duluth, Minn.

In her various roles, she has interviewed newsmakers as well as been in the trenches covering breaking news including natural disasters and crime scenes.Laura brings strong writing, media relations, event planning and strategic counsel to her role with McFarland Cahill Communications.
