John's management career began in the retail sector as a General Manager of several large scale department stores in addition to a period as a Buying Controller.He then moved in to the leisure industry in 1983 as Divisional Director at Alton Towers and, as a member of the original management team, helped create, build and develop this well known visitor attraction which became market leader in the UK.

Nine years later, and keen to get some public sector experience, he was appointed Director of Enterprise and Economic Development for the Training and Enterprise Council before joining Southampton Football Club in 1994.

He initially joined the club as Commercial and Marketing Manager prior to moving to St Mary's Stadium at which time he was appointed Head of Business Development with the task of maximising revenue from the stadium investment.In January 2008 John became Commercial Director at Southampton Football Club.He and his family have lived at their home near Winchester since moving to Hampshire in 1994.
