According to John T O'Shea, president of the Institute of Corrosion, the CATAP training centre is the first of its kind not only in the Gulf region but is unique in the world because such courses are usually run in- house by industries concerned.

Technology Applications Group Inc. of Grand Forks recently was awarded a $100,000 grant from the U.S. Army.

Present were Daniel Ersoy, materials scientist, of the Gas Technology Institute (GTI), Ed Ondak, former senior technical advisor for the US Department of Transportation, Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS), Paul Gustilo, PE, managing director, Technical Services, American Gas Association (AGA), and John T O'Shea, chief corrosion chemist at Advantica Technologies, UK and president of the UK's Institute of Corrosion.

O'Shea says that UK metallic distribution pipelines are not protected by cathodic protection and rely entirely on their protective coating to provide corrosion protection.

John T. O'Shea was recently elected president of the Institute of Corrosion ( ICorr ) , Leighton Buzzard , UK.

A corrosion chemist with more than 30 years experience in the gas industry , Mr. O'Shea is a member of a number of international technical committees.He just completed a term as vice president of ICorr.During his two-year term as president , he intends that ICorr should become established as the center for advice and information on corrosion matters in the UK.He has set a target to double the membership during this period.He succeeds Dr. Robert Edyvean of Sheffield University.
