"We are not looking for a rise in quota, but looking for help from the Department for an improvement of the industry as a whole," commented John O'Shea, chairman of the group of Drift and Draft Net Commercial Salmon Fishermen whose plan for their future, was launched on Monday 21st March, in Cork, by Lorcan O'Cuinneide, Chief Executive of the Irish Fish Producers Organisation.Under threat from vested interests, and with their livelihood under attack from a well orchestrated campaign, Drift and Draft Net Fishermen have joined forces to put together a plan to protect the future of their industry.
By presenting a united front and taking control of their future, John O'Shea said that they hoped to improve the lot of their industry.
