O'Shea concerned about students hanging out instead of studying

TOWNSEND - A discussion of graduation requirements during this week's North Middlesex Regional School District Committee meeting led high school Principal James O'Shea to voice concern that students do not make the best use of their time on school days.
O'Shea said, "For one reason or another, students lose interest and drop courses. They spend time at McDonald's or Dunkin' Donuts instead of being at the school. They'll do this when they have a study hall," he noted.
O'Shea objected to students who are out driving around when they should be in the building."They do this in times when we are responsible for them," he said.

Neither McCormick or O'Shea liked the idea of students, especially seniors, coming and going as they please.

O'Shea spoke of a conversation with a female student about the change."She told me that she'll have to add another course to her load so that she won't have to sit through study hall. It's a great idea, so I told her we'd get her on board with another course right away," he said.
"I don't think it is a good idea to let the students leave during the day to do things that are not necessary," O'Shea added.
