The same could be said of cabling, says Brad O'Toole, vice president of marketing for Transparent Cable."So what makes high-performance cable different than the cables that come in the component's box?The simple answer is quality at every level: quality materials, quality cable construction and quality assembly," he says."Beware of molded connectors, inadequate gauge and inexpensive and lightweight connectors."

O'Toole advises dealers to examine a cable's soldering, copper purity, amount of copper used in the cable's construction, ease of installation, durability and packaging. He goes on to say that one of the most discernible elements of a well-built cable is its ability to shield a system from RF and EMI interference.O'Toole says proper shielding starts with materials such as quality copper, and it also includes sound engineering.

According to O'Toole, materials and engineering are just the very beginning of what goes into the design and construction of a cable, and for a manufacturer to execute adds costs onto the bottom line.

    Proof Is in the Performance
