A Brief Biography of Dr. Ann Nyland Ann Nyland, an Australian scholar whose research field is Greek Biblical lexicography based on the papyri and inscriptions, holds a Ph.D. in New Testament lexicography, graduate degree (double major) in Classical Greek language, Honors Degree in the Ionic dialect of Greek.

Nyland's father, a Classicist, taught her Latin before English, which created a love of ancient languages. When Nyland was six years old, she accepted the Lord as her Savior. As a teenager, Nyland received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and joined a Spirit-filled church.

Her mother eventually became a pastor of a small church in an area marked by poverty. Following in her mother's footsteps, Nyland also served as a pastor.

Can you give an example of some verses in relation to the below comment [from Ann Nyland].Take the women passages for example. They contained some rarer and more misunderstood words. Many people do not want to know what the Greek here really says, as it conflicts with what they have been brought up to believe - and this is quite a problem.I would be interested to see how she translated them.OK, Brian.

That happened on Kenny Pearce's blog where a visitor spotted that an excerpt from Dr. Nyland's version of 1 Cor. 13 had "love is king."
    ...
I thought it would be interesting to compare a few passages from the TNIV and Dr. Nyland's new translation, The Source New Testament (TSNT).
    ...
I encourage you, fellow believers, through God's compassion, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, sacred, pleasing to God, which is your rational worship. (TSNT)In the Introduction to her translation, Dr. Nyland addresses the translation of Greek biastai:... Matthew 11:12 has puzzled people for centuries.

Today we interview Dr. Ann Nyland, translator of The Source New Testament.

    ...
The translator is Dr. Ann Nyland, a Classical Greek scholar, who is also well-versed in the Greek of the New Testament.
    ...
But the difference between the more expensive edition of The Source and the less expensive one is not, as I thought, that of a hardback versus a paperback, but, rather, of the less expensive one not containing the "Extensive Notes on Greek Word Meaning" which, coming from a Greek lexicographer like Dr. Nyland, will be very valuable. So, I will now order the more expensive version, and if anyone on this list would like to purchase the edition without the Greek notes from me, please contact me privately by email.

The Source is sure to stir up debate among Bible scholars and that is a good thing.Dr. Nyland is well grounded in Greek lexicography and bases her translation on that lexicographic research. Not everyone will agree with her, but I hope that everyone will take this translation seriously.

However, Nyland found much opposition to accurate word meaning in Bible translation because many people preferred the traditional, but inaccurate, language. (For a review of her translation, The Source, click here.)

Eventually, she discovered very powerful people actually controlled the distribution, even the content of certain Bible versions which claim that women must assume a naturally subordinate position to men.If their viewpoint was not included, then they would actively lobby publishers and others to either stop or withdraw the version that was contrary to their belief.Their tactics served to manipulate bookstores, for example, to refuse to carry any version that did not use masculine language to translate Greek words which referred to both genders.Hence, Nyland felt compelled to write More Than Meets the Eye to expose their chicanery.Likewise, GWTW feels to spread her research by putting up this chapter exposing the "Control of Bible Translation Today."

But in her study guide, Dr Nyland says the word has been wrongly assumed to mean homosexual. Its range of meanings includes one who anally penetrates another, whether female or male, a rapist, a murderer, or an extortionist. When used with the meaning anal penetrator, it does not apply exclusively to males, Dr Nyland says.

The word does not appear in any Greek literary source until the poets of the Imperial period, she says, when the Greeks wrote at length on male-male sexual relationships.

The reference in Romans, and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, were about angels having sex with humans, and not about homosexual acts, she says.

Most New Testament translations are based on a lack of understanding of Greek word meaning and context, and they display a disregard for published academic research, which shows passages in earlier translations are wrong, she says.

The Gay study bible was written by "classical Greek lexicographer" Ann Nyland - who claims (as Harvard Professor, Peter Gomes did years ago) that the words for homosexual in the Bible are misunderstood and wrongly translated.
    ...
Consider these things when reading the following article where Ann Nyland, this modern "Greek lexicographer" defends her view of homosexuality in the Bible.
