Steven Norris, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's center director at Robins Air Force Base, said by branching out and teaching a course at Northside High School starting next month, it could increase student enrollment and make it easier for students to get to class.

"Teaching at Northside will be a start for us," Norris said Wednesday.
    ...
"We're kind of outgrowing where we are on base," Norris said."And we have more of a demand (for courses)."

About 15 percent of the about 250 students also complain they have a hard time getting on base at times, since they have to go through security gates daily, Norris said.

Students are issued badges good for only a few months, then have to keep them updated. When students lose their identification badges, class instructors must travel to the base visitors center to get the students in, he said.

"We need to establish an off-base location," Norris said.

The university has an office building off Martin Luther King Boulevard on the southern end of the base and will continue to host classes for now at Northside High and on base.

The university offers bachelor's degrees in professional aeronautics and technical management, a master's degree in aeronautical science and certificates in management, logistics, ground safety and aviation safety.

"It's more of a convenience," Norris said of the change.
