A leader in international activities and education at MU for more than three decades, Michael F. Nolan has been a key to making MU a truly global university.He marked himself as an innovator shortly after he joined MU in 1971 by spearheading an unprecedented involvement of social scientists in specialized livestock improvement projects in five developing developed countries, including Kenya and Indonesia . Since that time he has collaborated in the graduate training of social scientists from several developing nations who have gone on to occupy positions of importance in organizations such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and the International Food Policy Research Institute.He has brought in more than $60 million in external funding to MU.He currently serves as Division Director of Applied Social Sciences in the College of Agriculture , Food and Natural Resources.For his outstanding contributions, he received the Provost's International Education Leadership Award in 2004 and the CAFNR Frederick B. Mumford Distinguished Faculty Award in 2005 . He also received the Rural Policy Research Institute Founder's Award in 2002 and the U.S. Department of Agriculture International Honor Award in 1994.A Jefferson Club member, Nolan and his wife, Paula, have three children: Christopher, Evan Thrush and Ryan Thrush.
