    In 1990, Michael E. Nolan, an experienced farrier and blacksmith, had been working on draft horses in the Pacific Northwest United States.

    Mr. Nolan recognized a need for a solution to this common dilemma.He began experimenting with ways that could reduce the problems inherent to the conditions he observed.Specifically, he began experimenting with the idea of a metal band that would function as a nut and washer at the end of a bolt.The idea was to prevent the horseshoe nails from tearing through the hoof.

    While installing the hoof plate at a customers farm one day, his customer asked does this hurt my horse? and Mr. Nolan replied that from his observations as a qualified farrier, that there was no damage ever observed.Coincidently, Mr. Nolan did observe noticeable physical improvement to most hooves.Mr. Nolan felt compelled to further validate his observations and decided to share it with an established local veterinarian and a group of trainers and farriers in Lubbock, Texas.This group helped validate the results Mr. Nolan had earlier obtained on his own.

    After obtaining a patent for his product in 2003 and completing the preliminary product testing, Mr. Nolan sold his Company and granted an exclusive product license to Menco Equine Specialties in May 2004.
