Of the 30 tested areas, DeSoto students had "strong improvement" in 22, said Kathy Noel, director of curriculum and accountability for the DeSoto Parish School Board.
"In the areas where we didn't see as much improvement, those are the areas we've been targeting for improvement and we saw some change but not as much as in the other areas.
So generally, we're pleased."
The greatest strides were noted in the fifth and seventh grades, but she found strong points among the third and ninth grades, too.
"We've had a large what we call proficiency in basic and above," Noel said.
"We still have a general concern in the fourth grade.
I have someone looking at that today."

Overall, Noel is encouraged that the curriculum analysis team of teachers who make sure what goes on in the classrooms every day is aligning with the state's comprehensive curriculum is on the right track.
