Alexzandra, who was ready to begin her sophomore year at Bentworth, finished third in the Class AA 1,600-meter run and earned a fifth-place medal in the 800 meters in May during the PIAA Track and Field Championships in Shippensburg.

Two weeks earlier, she set the WPIAL Class AA championship record in the 1,600.

Her death came as a shock to those who knew her.To be so young, so talented, so beautiful and so kind, how could this happen to her?

"She was a special young lady," Nixon said."More than just a great athlete, she was a much greater person.

"She was dedicated to the fullest," he said."A great competitor, a straight-A student.

"I just felt, when I looked at it, of the three sports that she participated in, she excelled the most in track and field," Bentworth coach Jerome Nixon said."We had to do something special with the arm band."

Nixon and Bentworth even went through the proper procedures to ensure the Bearcats can wear the arm bands, receiving permission from the WPIAL and PIAA.

Even if they hadn't, her memory will run with Bentworth throughout the spring and beyond.
