Jim Nixon has been involved in promoting entrepreneurship for over thirty years.In January 1987, he founded North American Venture Development Group ("NAVDG"), a consulting and venture capital firm organized to assist entrepreneurs in starting and developing new businesses.As adjunct professor, he taught entrepreneurial skills at York College, in Queens, NY.
Before starting NAVDG, Mr. Nixon was vice president of ITT Corporation, responsible for encouraging ITT units to use small or minority-owned businesses as suppliers.Later, as director of affirmative action for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority of New York ("MTA"), he was responsible for identifying, certifying, and monitoring minority-owned firms supplying over $200 million annually in goods and services to MTA operating divisions.In 1991, he purchased Inline Brake Manufacturing Corporation, a producer of OEM-quality automotive components for General Motors, Chrysler Corporation, and independent export.
His early career included various engineering and management positions with General Electric.
Mr. Nixon holds a BS in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and studied nuclear plant technology and business administration at Union College in Schenectady, NY.
He has served on the boards of numerous charitable and public service organizations including, most recently, the Advisory Committee to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Urban Redevelopment Commission of Stamford (CT), and the Advisory Board to Bank Boston.He is listed in the 42nd edition of Who's Who in America.
