John Nix, IESI's marketing and government relations officer, admitted that most citizens would not notice a difference.He added, however, that IESI offers several advantages: full-time, uniformed employees who receive better pay and benefits, making them more motivated and well-trained; smaller trucks with better weight distribution, which should result in less damage to parish roads, though it will mean that 13 trucks will be used rather than eight; and a dedicated call center that will most likely be located on the outskirts of Opelousas.

Also at the meeting, jurors heard from John Nix of IESI, a solid-waste collection and disposal company operating in nine states, including parts of Louisiana.

The company also is interested in redirecting the parish's waste to its new landfill north of Oakdale, Nix said, and it would consider using a landfill in Pointe Coupee.
