   KAPALUA, MAUI, HAWAII - Hiroshi Nishizawa has been appointed executive chef at the world-renowned Kapalua Bay Hotel, A Renaissance Resort. He relocated to Hawaii from Japan where he was the executive sous chef at the Swissotel Nankai Osaka.
   
   Nishizawa brings more than 31 years of culinary experience to the award-winning Kapalua Bay Hotel, where he will be responsible for overseeing two restaurants, the 200-seat Gardenia Court and the 120-seat Plumeria Terrace. He will also supervise the hotel kitchen outlets, banquet and special catering facilities, and room service. In addition, he will monitor all food and kitchen equipment purchases and culinary production, and create new restaurant and banquet menus. He will directly supervise the staff of chefs, cooks, food preparation servers and administrative support associates in his department.
   
   Nishizawa began his culinary career in 1974 at the John Hancock, Chicago, 95th Restaurant. He was chef/owner of Le Mignon in Chicago, Illinois. He also served as the sous chef of the world-renowned Maxwell Plum in San Francisco. He began his career with Marriott International in 1985 when he was part of the new hotel opening team at Marriott Hotel Torrance, California. Later, he worked at various Marriott International properties in New York City, Los Angeles, and Portland, Oregon.
   
   He is the recipient of several Marriott International awards for his culinary skills. Nishizawa is a native of Japan where he became interested in culinary arts as early as in high school. His interests are golfing, fishing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
