"It's kind of a scavenger hunt, only the puzzle pieces are at the stores," Friends Unique Boutique owner Carol Nimke said."We'll also have free balloons, free gifts, each family will get a gift bag and it's all free."

The event will also bring nonprofit agencies, dance studios, marital arts studios, games and other activities together in the square for an event Nimke believes will follow in the footsteps of other BID events like Shop Til You Drop and Free Gift Day earlier in the summer.

"This is the crescendo," said Nimke, a coordinator of Family Affair Day."Everything has been building up to this point, but we're not stopping with the special events at the end of the summer.We're not letting this energy drop."

The all-day event will send children ages 13 and under on a sort-of scavenger hunt to put together their puzzle.Locations with pieces for the children will be marked with a puzzle piece on their storefront, Nimke said.Meanwhile, demonstrations and child-centered activities will continue throughout the day in the square.

"There will be some food for purchase, but otherwise, we wanted to make this as low-cost and open to families as possible," Nimke said."Families are so vitally important to this city."

In addition to the puzzle piece producing businesses, Nimke said a total of nearly 50 downtown businesses got involved in Family Affair day by either donating door prizes or volunteering their time.
