Ruth Nimitz
Ruth P. Nimitz , age 94 , died on Saturday , November 3 , 2001 , at the Season's Retirement Home , Kenwood , Ohio , where she had lived for 13 years. Mrs. Nimitz was past president of the Cincinnati Medical Auxiliary/Alliance and of the Ohio State Medical Auxiliary/Alliance. She was a member of the Cincinnati Women's Club , the Saint Elizabeth Guild in College Hill and the Rebecca Motte Chapter of the D.A.R. , the Ladies Benevolent Society of Charleston , South Carolina and the Holy Trinity Church of Kenwood , Ohio.
She loved to travel and was a charter member of the Cincinnati Zoological Safari Club. According to her son , Paul : Mother was on the first Safari trip to Africa directed by the Zoo ; I think it was her favorite trip.
She graduated from Mt. St. Notre Dame and then attended the University of Cincinnati. She resided in College Hill of Cincinnati and then moved to Charleston , South Carolina , from 1971 to 1988 , then she returned to Cincinnati to reside at the Seasons. She had many friends in Cincinnati and in Charleston. Her daughter , Lois says that it is an understatement ; she seems to know and like almost everybody.. She loved to play Contract Bridge and took part in some seven or so sessions a week.
Mrs. Nimitz was preceded in death by her first husband , Paul M. Woodward , Sr. , M.D. ; by her second husband , Herman J. Nimitz , M.D. ; her mother , Frances Parks ; her father , Louis F. Parks , and her sister , Holly Clancy.
She is survived by her daughter , Lois Barber of West Chester , and her son , Paul M. Woodward , M.D. of Middletown. She leaves five grandchildren ; Steven Parks Woodward of Loveland Ohio , Sue Barber Weston of West Chester , Ohio , Rev. Grant Barber of Oxford , Ohio , Marjorie Ellen Pitzer of Fairfield , Ohio and Michael Woodward of Middletown , Ohio ; ten great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild. She leaves two step-daughters , Betsy Dixon of Portland , Oregon and Mary Scoville of Leland , Michigan , seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
