Prof. Andrew T. Nilsson

Andrew Nilsson is a Professor and Coordinator of the undergraduate program in social work at Eastern Connecticut State University.He holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in social welfare policy from Brandeis University.He has been active in the civil rights and anti-war movements since the 1960's and is committed to non-violence as a way of life.He recently introduced a course in conflict resolution to Eastern's curriculum which exposes students to non-violence at the national level through discussion of Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and the South African Truth and Justice Commission; at the meso- level through discussion of interest-based labor/management negotiation; and at the inter-personal level through conflict mediation.Though not a religious scholar, he hopes to learn more about Jain ethical values and their application in today's turbulent society.
