Rebecca Nicholson Named Director of Environment, Health and Safety Research Division at RTI International

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK -- Rebecca "Becky" Nicholson has been promoted to director of the Environment, Health and Safety Research Division at RTI International.
In this position, Nicholson will be responsible for overseeing a multidisciplinary staff of 90 scientists and engineers dedicated to developing and executing environmental analysis and engineering programs for a wide variety of clients.

Nicholson joined RTI in 2002 when RTI acquired the environmental engineering staff from Midwest Research Institute's local office.In 2005, she was promoted to director of the environmental engineering program, where she managed 20 engineers and scientists who perform environmental research including air pollution engineering and development and implementation of national air emissions regulations.
Nicholson has more than 20 years experience in the environmental field, specializing in the development and implementation of air quality regulations.She is currently providing technical support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on a project to develop a multi-pollutant emissions reduction strategy for the pulp and paper industry.
Her previous projects have included investigating biomass energy technologies for forest products, identifying industrial facilities with superior environmental performance, and estimating nationwide costs, emission reductions and environmental impacts associated with implementing environmental regulations.
Nicholson is a member of Air and Waste Management Association and former Chair of the Research Triangle Park chapter.
She earned bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering and pulp and paper technology from North Carolina State University.
