Parade director Linda Nguyen, a onetime council candidate herself, said the annual event, which she estimates draws about 50,000 people, is a prime opportunity for candidates to attract voters."It's a great place to talk to people," Nguyen said, although she noted that with parade-watchers coming from all over the Bay Area, finding those who live in a single San Jose council district is a challenge.

The festival, now in its 10th year, continues to grow, Nguyen said. This year it attracted more parade entries than ever. She attributes the growth in part to increasing interest among Vietnamese student associations at local high schools, community colleges and universities.
