Lily Nguyen (NAAAP Scholar)A graduate of Brighton High School, Lily will be attending Rochester Institute of Technology this fall to major in graphic design.She was born in a small village in the heart of South Vietnam.When she was five, she lost her hearing because of a serious illness.Since there was no school for the hearing impaired in her village, she did not have any formal education prior to the age of 12th.She immigrated to the US in 1996 and enrolled in the Horace Mann School for the deaf where she learned American Sign Language.She subsequently enrolled in Brighton High School.Her academics improved dramatically during her high school years.In addition to significant academic accomplishments despite her difficult situation, she actively gave back to the community as Secretary and President of the Junior Association of the Deaf and as Secretary of the Horace Mann School for the Deaf.She is a confident individual who loves reading with English is her favorite academic subject.
