Kathryn Nelson, NRWA Water Monitoring Coordinator, commented that, "We are fortunate that we see mostly greens and blues in the 2006 results for bacteria and other tests we run and NRWA would like to keep it that way."Nelson went on to say that in order to keep water quality healthy the best practice is to keep rain water as close to where it falls as possible and to slow down how quickly it gets to a water body.Rain washing pollutants off the land and roads and quickly piped via catch basins to a nearby stream can cause both pollution and flooding issues.Home and small business owners can make a difference by choosing landscaping options that keep rain from quickly running off into the street.
As an additional part of the GLCF grant, Nelson and Martha Morgan, NRWA Water Resources Advisor, gave presentations at the meetings of several local community groups reviewing the monitoring program and its findings.
