LaForice Nealy, Chief Response Officer of the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago at the Rauner Center (2200 W. Harrison St.) commented that the partnership agreements that occurred before Hurricane Ike helped most in the aftermath because the support for victims was established before disaster struck. Nealy encouraged churches collaborating together to contact the Red Cross to receive support as long as their services are needed. He stated that many churches are not initially aware of the problems that come with running disaster shelters such as problems in leadership, running the shelter twenty-four hours a day, or dealing with victims who are not ready to leave their homes.
